“A thought provoking production delivered with style…”  ★★★★★ A Youngish Perspective “A compelling and galvanising journey to 1968” playwright James Graham OBE (Dear England, This House)
This fascinating documentary theatre show takes audiences on a reflective journey from 1968 to the
present, asking how, in a new age of inequality and injustice, the voices of the past can give us hope.
The five-star Soho Theatre sell-out brings the 1968 LSE protests, the most significant act of protest in
a generation when 3000 students occupied the school, back to gripping life. Traversing global and
personal history, Lessons on Revolution uses rigorous historical research from LSE’s archives
including photos and first-hand accounts to glide audiences through global and personal history.
Transporting us back to the radical hopes of 1968, this historical reconstruction has a simple
message: just as the revolution felt like a real possibility 50 years ago, change towards a more equal
world is also possible today through the act of sharing the space in theatre as in life.
Writers and performers Sam Rees and Gabriele Uboldi said: “In 1968, radical students in London
and across the globe dared to imagine a better future. Today their dreams may be buried in archives,
but they continue to inspire us to change the world. This is a show about a failed
revolution and radical hope, bringing archives to life onstage. It’s a story about how forgotten events
continue to reverberate today, and we are so excited to bring it to Edinburgh.”
