My Review of Peter Pan Goes Wrong (Lyric Theatre)

On Sunday 14th January, I went to the final matinee performance of Peter Pan Goes Wrong at Lyric Theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue.

For those who are unaware, Peter Pan Goes Wrong written by Henry Lewis, Henry Shields and Jonathan Sayer, who have written all of Mischief Theatre’s works to date including The Play That Goes Wrong, Magic Goes Wrong, Mind Mangler and The Comedy About a bank Robbery to name a few.

The fictitious Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society attempts to stage a production of the 1904 J.M Barries Peter Pan which is repeatedly ruined by the amateurism and personal rivalries of the cast and crew.

Peter Pan goes wrong first premiered at the Pleasance theatre in London, has had a UK tour, appeared on Broadway, Los Angeles and had 3 west end runs.

The Cast comprised of Ellie Morris as Tootles, Chris Leask as Trevor, Harry Kershaw as Chris, Matthew Caverndish as Max, Greg Tannahill as Jonathan, Matthew Howell as Robert, Charlie Russell as Sandra, Jean-Luke Worrell as Francis, Nancy Zamit as Annie and Clark Devlin as Dennis.

This marked the first time I have actually seen Peter Pan Goes Wrong stage version, however I have seen the BBC television special a number of times since it premiered. I also have the recording on DVD too.

For me the stand out moments were, Harry Kershaw version of Chris Bean, Charlie Russell as Sandra, Jean-Luke Worrell as Francis and Nancy Zamit as Annie. It was so lovely to see a number of the mischief company members.

I was left in stitches and would recommend everyone to catch it on tour before it finishes and is Another Hilarious Masterpiece from Mischief Theatre.

For complete transparency purposes I paid for 2 tickets using mischief tickets which cost £40. We sat in Seats (Stalls W18 and W19) even though there was a sight line obstruction. We were pleasantly surprised.

Peter Pan Goes Wrong is now continuing on their uk tour starting off at Leeds Grand Theatre and concluding the tour at Cheltenham Everyman Theatre.
