Wicked Active Learning Partners with Children's Charity theatre works!

The London producers of the stage musical Wicked have donated £10,000 worth of tickets to theatre works!, a UK-based charity committed to making theatre accessible to young people. This significant contribution will provide young people, facing economic and social barriers, with the opportunity to experience one of London’s most iconic musicals, enhancing their appreciation for the arts in general and live theatre in particular.

The donated tickets are for the West End production of Wicked, as part of its acclaimed Wicked Active Learning education programme, providing the opportunity for children to immerse themselves in the magical world of Oz. Schools can apply for tickets to attend Tuesday to Thursday performances during term time, excluding school holidays. This arrangement ensures that the experiences are integrated into the educational framework, providing both entertainment and learning opportunities.

The charity, theatre works!, will use these tickets to broaden the horizons of children who might not otherwise have the chance to attend such a high-calibre production. Since its inception three years ago, theatre works! has provided tickets for over 10,000 children to attend the theatre. By coordinating with schools and youth organisations, the charity funds trips that are not only fun but also educational, including post-show discussions whenever possible.

Michael McCabe, Executive Producer of Wicked in the UK said: “We passionately believe that all children and young people, irrespective of their social or economic backgrounds, should have the opportunity to experience live theatre, and we’re proud to support theatre works! in delivering further enriching experiences.”

Sharon StuderChair of theatre works!, said "Access to theatre can dramatically alter a child's perception of the world. Thanks to the 'Wicked' producers, more children will now have the chance to experience this transformative power."

The team at theatre works! encourages other organizations and individuals who are passionate about arts education to get involved. Contributions can range from donations to volunteering, each playing a crucial role in expanding the charity's impact.
